NEW DELHI, April 20, 2015 (The Hindu Business Line) - Fair trade watchdog CCI has cleared the proposed merger between US companies MeadWestvaco Corp and Rock-Tenn Company after finding that the deal is not likely to adversely impact competition in the Indian market.
Rock-Tenn is into packaging solutions as well as manufactures container board and paperboard. MeadWestvaco provides corrugated packaging solutions and speciality chemicals for automotive and other industries. Both entities are present in India.
Smurfit Kappa UK Limited, a subsidiary of Smurfit Kappa Group plc, a world leader in paper-based packaging, has completed the acquisition of inspirepac.
Chris Marples, CEO of inspirepac, will continue to lead the business and is suitably enthused by the deal.
MILWAUKEE, April 2, 2015 (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) - Two packaging companies, both owned by Quad/Graphics Inc., are planning to expand their neighboring facilities in Franklin, according to information filed with the city.
Transpak Corp. and Proteus Packaging Corp. both operate on World Packaging Circle, a cul-de-sac within Franklin Business Park, south of W. Ryan Road and west of S. Oakwood Park Drive. Both companies moved to Franklin from Milwaukee in 2007 and were sold to Quad in 2013.

OAKLAND, CA, April 3, 2015 (RISI) - International Paper's sale of its Carolina coated paperboard bristols brand to MeadWestvacowill give the latter control of the declining commercial printing grade, according to RISI contacts and capacity estimates.
IP said its decision to sell Carolina was a result of its plans to convert the Riegelwood, NC, mill to 100% pulp, "thereby eliminating the manufacturing capability to produce the brand."
BRUSSELS, March 27, 2015 (RISI) - Italian corrugated paper and packaging giant Pro-Gest has signed a binding offer to acquire Burgo's Mantova newsprint mill.
The 160,000 tonne/yr mill houses a 7.10 m wide paper machine PM 1, which has been inactive since February 2013.
Pro-Gest said that the goal of the two parties involved in the deal is to restart industrial activity at the site.
The deal, the cost of which was not revealed, is subject to regulatory approvals.Read more
Smurfit Kappa Benelux, a subsidiary of Smurfit Kappa has announced that it has agreed to acquire the European and Mexican operations of Hexacomb, a subsidiary of Packaging Corporation of America. Hexacomb is the largest European manufacturer of paper honeycomb and packaging solutions, and employs approximately 215 people across the operations in the Netherlands, France, Spain and Mexico.Read more
