GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB, April 9, 2014 (Local News) - Wayne Roznowski, manager of public affairs for Weyerhaeuser, confirmed the company is making changes to their regularly scheduled shutdowns. What used to be a regular, annual maintenance shutdown will switch to being scheduled for every 18 months.
"Basically, it's a cost saving measure," Roznowski explained. "A shutdown is an annual maintenance shutdown and is a multi million dollar event... We will have up to a thousand people, contractors, on site. You have lost production... (and) it's a pretty significant number."Read more
HELSINKI, March 31, 2014 (Globe Newswire) - In January 2014, Stora Enso announced that it planned to permanently shut down paper machine 1 (PM 1) at Veitsiluoto Mill in Finland, due to structural weakening of magazine paper demand in Europe. BRUSSELS, Dec. 2, 2013 (RISI) - Stora Enso is mending the lime kiln at its Veitsiluoto mill in Kemi, northern Finland, after a breakdown following a power outage. The firm plans to restart the lime kiln toward the end of the week, mill director Juha Mäkimattila said.
During the time the lime kiln is down for reparations, Stora Enso is buying lime. The pulp and paper production at the facility has not been affected, Mäkimattila added.Read more
