Metsä Tissue has been nominated as a top contender in the European Energy Masters competition. The winners will be announced in conjunction with the 4th Annual Energy Masters Conference in Berlin on March 14th.
Energy Masters is Europe's leading networking platform for energy management in the industrial sector. Award-winners are chosen in four categories. Metsä Tissue has been nominated in the category of Total Energy Management Concept (Energiemanagement Gesamtkonzept) along with Mercedes-Benz and MVV Umwelt GmbH.
The Energy Masters jury selected Metsä Tissue as a nominee for its Tissue 20 energy efficiency concept. This project aims to implement energy-saving actions and thereby achieve a combined saving comparable to 20 per cent of the company's former energy consumption level by the end of 2012. The company has made great efforts to fight climate change by successfully implementing more than 200 practical improvements with immediate positive ecological impacts since the launch of the Tissue 20 Project in 2008.
Metsä Tissue's ambitious energy-saving goal will be accomplished by streamlining production, training employees and instituting a systematic programme of investment in energy efficiency improvements. Communication, cooperation and best practice sharing within the Group is a major key to the project's success. Metsä Tissue had invested EUR 7 million in the project by the end of last year, with a further EUR 3 million to follow later this year.
