PHILADELPHIA, March 11, 2010 (Press Release) -SCA Tissue North America's paper mill and converting operations in Neenah and Menasha, Wis., and in Barton, Ala., have achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification.

Certification by the voluntary International Standards Organization (ISO) means the company's operations in both Alabama and Wisconsin have an approved Environmental Management System (EMS) in place that allows them to:

  • identify and control their environmental impact
  • continuously improve their environmental performance
  • implement a systematic approach in achieving environmental objectives
  • demonstrate those objective have been met

"SCA Tissue is a recognized leader in the paper industry when it comes to sustainable business practices and products, as reflected in our third-party certifications and environmental accolades. ISO 14001 certification sends another clear message to our stakeholders that SCA Tissue's environmental stewardship is ongoing, documentable and an integral part of our corporate culture," said SCA Tissue President Don Lewis.

"ISO 14001 certification shows that you have an organized, verifiable environmental management system in place to achieve your environmental targets," added Michael Dillon, SCA Tissue Manager, Environmental & Risk Management. "This certification verifies that in working to achieve our environmental goals, SCA Tissue applies the highest internationally recognized standards in the systems we use to achieve those goals and monitor our processes."

SCA Tissue is the only one of the three major North American tissue makers to have a mill and converting operation in the US with ISO 14001 certification. SCA also is working toward ISO certification at its mills and converting operations in South Glens Falls and Greenwich, N.Y., and in Flagstaff and Bellemont, Ariz.

SCA Tissue, headquartered in Philadelphia, is among the three largest producers of Away From Home tissue products in North America. To make its 100 percent recycled Tork products, SCA recycles over 750,000 tons of paper a year, and over 50 percent of those tons are post-consumer.

The first American papermaker to earn EcoLogoTM certification for its environmentally sustainable processes and products, SCA Tissue also has earned Green SealTM certification on an assortment of its products, making Tork the largest Away From Home sanitary paper product brand in North America to earn both certifications.
