HACKENSACK, NJ, Sept. 7, 2012 (Local News) -As part of its research into slashing electricity costs, the new owner of the former Marcal Paper plant in Elmwood Park will soon request proposals for construction of its own power plant.

Soundview Paper Co. is looking into a variety "of potential solutions regarding energy costs at the company, including solar," Chief Executive Officer George Wurtz said in an email Thursday.

That effort also involves exploring the feasibility of building a so-called merchant power plant on the paper recycler and manufacturer's site in Bergen County. Soundview, which acquired struggling Marcal in April, has been researching construction of its own natural-gas fired power plant for more than four months, Wurtz said.
