ROTHSCHILD, WI, Feb. 26, 2014 (Wausau Daily Herald) - The recently built power plant at Domtar paper mill is getting only 10 percent of its fuel from logging waste, which originally was supposed to supply nearly all of the plant's energy needs.
The 50-megawatt, $255 million power plant went online in November to provide steam for Domtar's paper operations and a clean source of power for WE Energies. The plant will burn 500,000 tons of biomass annually, said Cathy Schulze, a WE Energies spokeswoman.Read more

SAO PAULO, Oct. 8, 2013 (RISI) - Suzano Pulp and Paper has for the first time fired up the power biomass boiler at its new Imperatriz pulp unit in Maranhão state, Brazil. During the mill commissioning period the boiler will run for a few hours per day, as there is not yet demand for steam and energy. PORT ANGELES, WA, Sept. 6, 2013 (Peninsula Daily News) - After more than two years of construction and controversy,Nippon Paper Industries USA's expanded biomass cogeneration plant is stirring to life in preparation for going online in October.
"We're doing checkouts of various pieces of equipment," mill manager Harold Norlund said last week from his Ediz Hook office.
