Sonoco today announced that it will raise the price for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) products by $40 per ton, effective with shipments in the United States and Canada beginning March 2, 2015.
"The price increase is driven by a need to relieve continued inflationary pressure, especially from rising freight rates and chemicals, and to cover the added cost of continued investment in our paper business," said Palace Stepps, director of sales and marketing for Sonoco's North America paper business.Read more
Levels for all surveyed coated fine paper (CFP) grades were unchanged. Premium end CFP prices remained at RMB 5,400-5,550/tonne ($871-895/tonne), the same as in November.
Commodity CFP grades were flat at RMB 5,000-5,050/tonne.
APP China announced a hike of RMB 100/tonne, but did not get it through. Other producers had also mulled over price rises in the past several months, but most backed off due to poor demand.Read more
Effective immediately, or as contracts allow, BASF will increase kaolin prices globally for paper applications. Prices will increase by up to 7 percent, with the amount of the increase dependent on the product. BASF's energy surcharge policy remains unchanged with the threshold at $5/mmbtu.

PITTEN, Austria, Sept. 17, 2014 (Press Release) -Hamburger Containerboard to raise prices due to the current market situation by 50.--€/tonne for brown and white containerboard as of October 1st, 2014.
The sustained strong demand has resulted in exceptionally high operating rates on production as well as dramatically low stocks in the plants.
