Smurfit Kappa to start up lightweight recycled containerboard PM in UK in late February

BRUSSELS, Jan. 15, 2015 (PPI Europe) -Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG) is nearing the completion of its £100 million ($152 million) investment in lightweight recycled containerboard at its Townsend Hook mill in the UK.

The mill's revamped 5-m wide PM is set to be launched in the second half of February, the firm said.

The second-hand unit will be able to make some 260,000 tonnes/yr of brown testliner in a basis weight range
of 100-120 g/m2and recycled fluting in a basis weight range of 80-120 g/m2. Following the PM start-up, Smurfit Kappa plans to test the paper at its corrugated plants prior to offering it to the
open market.

The firm said that the main target markets for Townsend Hook's containerboard are the UK and Ireland.
