The competition, which recognises and rewards international packaging design innovation and excellence and is organised by the World Packaging Organisation, has awarded DS Smith no less than three highly coveted prizes for its groundbreaking work for major household name brands. The firm was the only UK packaging firm to win three awards.
The corrugated packaging and supply cycle specialist won an award for its work on an innovative bulk glass transit packaging solution for Jaguar Land Rover. The pack allows easy access for both filling and decanting and features a clever drop-down front and an outer sleeve that can be detached and re-positioned as and when required, to ensure maximum Supply Cycle efficiency.
WorldStar success for the Jaguar Land Rover pack follows hot on the heels of DS Smith's prestigious Silver Star award in the Starpack design competition earlier this year when judges praised the strength and integrity of the pack and its ability to ‘cushion high value product to perfection'.
An impressive award was also achieved for DS Smith's quick and easy-erect asparagus tray for leading British asparagus grower, St John's Farm. The corrugated tray with a laminated PET inner liner effectively holds 10 bundles of fresh, seasonal asparagus harvested from the field, in a ventilated and protective container with minimal water penetration. Designed with good customer service at its heart, the tray enables produce to be packed and delivered quickly - an essential for short seasonal crops and can be easily collapsed and folded down saving valuable space and time for either re-use or disposal.
Another worthy winner was the ‘online fulfilment' corrugated postal pack DS Smith designed. The pack incorporates twin closure tapes and an opening tear strip, delivering high fashion garments to consumers in safe, pilfer evident protective packaging.
