Germany's Klingele Group receives BRC/IoP certification for three corrugated cardboard plants

September 14, 2014 - 20:36

REMSHALDEN and STUTTGART, Germany, Sept. 10, 2014 (Press Release) -The Klingele Group, one of the leading independent manufacturers of corrugated raw paper cardboard and corrugated cardboard packaging, is now fully BRC/IoP-certified. This enables the company to meet the requirements of its customers in terms of hygiene and product safety at all sites and to offer maximum transparency in its standards and processes through annual audits. Klingele achieved certification with the top category (A) for three of its four corrugated cardboard plants and for its subsidiary Klingele Golfkarton (Elst, Holland); the audit in the Remshalden Grunbach (Stuttgart region) plant is planned for the beginning of 2015. BRC/IoP is a globally recognised standard for all types of food packaging and the highest seal of quality in this sector to date.

Klingele supplies corrugated cardboard packaging to numerous companies in sensitive industries, in particular the food and pharmaceutical sectors. These companies themselves must meet strict requirements in terms of hygiene and safety and therefore also set high standards for their suppliers in these categories. Thanks to the certification, Klingele has now positioned itself on an equal footing with major and particularly demanding customers and is making advances in the top league of corrugated cardboard packaging suppliers as buyers can expect maximum hygiene standards.

Klingele optimised numerous internal processes and made major investments for the BRC certification, including new ventilation concepts for its production halls. Certification of the Delmenhorst and Hilpoltstein plants was obtained in June 2014; the factory in Werne and the subsidiary Klingele Golfkarton already obtained the award in 2013 (Werne) and 2012 (Golfkarton).

Uniform quality standards across the entire company

However, Klingele is now also implementing uniform quality standards in other areas given the increase in the number of cross-company customer orders that are being processed. Therefore, all corrugated cardboard plants and paper mills in the group have a quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 and FSC certification designating the use of wood products - paper in this case - from sustainable forest management. All corrugated cardboard plants will also introduce an energy management system (ISO 50001) by autumn of this year and an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 by the middle of 2015.

"Product safety and hygiene are critical issues for many of our customers", explains Dr. Jan Klingele, Managing Partner of the Klingele Group. "As a partner to our customers, it is therefore important that we offer the same high quality standards throughout the entire group - even those that are not yet explicitly required in the market. The BRC/IoP certification means that we are now going far beyond mere compliance with the statutory requirements. In this way, we will help our customers to eliminate risks and ensure the highest hygiene standards for their products. The experience and positive feedback shows that we are strengthening our customers' trust in our processes and standards.
