MWV named to Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for tenth straight year

September 18, 2013 - 19:19

RICHMOND, VA, Sept. 18, 2013 (Press Release) -For the tenth straight year, MWV was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. MWV is the only company in the packaging industry to have such an extended run on this prestigious list, which recognizes the world's leading companies in the areas of economic, environmental and social performance. Many of the company's consumer packaged goods customers are on the list as well, including industry group leaders Nestlé and Henkel.

Dow Jones evaluates organizations based on their commitment to and success integrating sustainability into core business objectives and performance. MWV has considered sustainability a crucial part of its business strategy for far longer than ten years, but over the course of the last decade has made significant improvements in environmental performance and social responsibility - all while delivering strong returns to shareholders and playing a part in helping customers' sustainability stories come to life through packaging. On this year's index, our efforts were recognized not only with industry leading scores in Corporate Governance, Risk & Crisis Management, and Human Capital Development, but also strong scores in Climate Strategy, Product Stewardship, and Supply Chain Management.

"For more than a century, we have worked hard to be dedicated stewards of the many resources entrusted to our care. That includes shareholders' capital, natural resources, employee well-being, and our customers' brands - which we help shape through packaging," said John A. Luke, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of MWV. "We take our commitment to the ‘triple bottom line' very seriously, and we always will."

In a few weeks, MWV will be releasing its 2012 Corporate Responsibility Report. The report is being prepared using the Global Reporting Initiative G3 guidelines and will cover sustainability issues and progress evaluated by RobecoSAM, as well as feature the people, stories and metrics that bring to life a commitment to take actions every day that make MWV's business more responsible. The report will be available on the web at
