VALPARAISO and GARY, IN, Aug. 13, 2014 (Local News) -Pratt gets needed variances for paper mill
The only complaint Pratt Industries' various variance requests garnered Thursday was from Tom Stoner, the farmer who sold the property on which Pratt is building its $200 million paper mill.
The city's Board of Zoning Appeals held a special noon meeting to hear the variance requests. Among the variances was one dealing with a reduction in the total number of trees and shrubs the company will be required to plant around the facility and along Anthony Pratt Drive, the new access road from Division Street.
Pratt to open Gary warehouse
Pratt Industries may hire up to 30 workers by 2016 to man a new warehouse in Gary.
The Australia-based international recycled packaging company is investing $2 million to $2.5 million in a new Gary distribution center to support the new $260 million paper mill it's building in Valparaiso. Construction is underway on a 250,000-square-foot Valpo plant - billed as the world's most technologically advanced and environmentally-friendly recycled paper facility - next to Pratt's existing cardboard box factory on Ind. 49.
