Cause of five-day wastepaper fire at Cascades/Greenpac mill in New York may never be known says fire official

October 15, 2014 - 11:50

NIAGARA FALLS, NY, Oct. 15, 2014 (Local News) -The fire at the Greenpac plant raged for five days, but barring an unforeseen development, the cause of the blaze may never be known.

"(The cause) is undetermined at this time," Niagara Falls Fire Chief Tom Colangelo said Monday. "We have interviewed everyone who was working (at both the Greenpac and nearby Norampac plants) that day (when the fire started) and no one saw anything."

The destruction of hundreds of bales of cardboard was so complete that without a witness to what sparked the fire, investigators won't be able to make a final determination on the cause.

Tonawanda News - Cause of Greenpac fire likely to remain a mystery
