BRUSSELS, Sept. 7, 2017 (PPI Europe) -Sweden’s BillerudKorsnäs, via its wholly owned subsidiary BillerudKorsnäs Venture AB, has acquired a minority stake in the cold chain packaging firm Vericool, located in California.
BillerudKorsnäs declined to provide further details on the transaction.
Vericool’s solutions enable sustainable and compostable packaging solutions for unbroken cold chains in the grocery and pharmaceutical markets, for things such as home delivery of food and transportation of biological medicines, BillerudKorsnäs said in a statement. These products are intended as an alternative to non-sustainable packaging solutions like polystyrene (EPS).
The acquisition is part of the firm’s strategy to focus on developing new packaging-related solutions in collaboration with early-stage companies along the packaging value chain. The company invested in the Danish packaging innovation company EcoXpac and in the Norwegian serialization and track and trace specialist Kezzler in 2016, as well as in the UK track and trace company Hanhaa in January this year.
