Mexico’s Grupo Gondi invests $30 million in Bobst state-of- the-art preprinting line

November 08, 2012 - 08:35

SAO PAULO, Nov. 8, 2012 (RISI) -Mexico's Grupo Gondi has announced the purchase of a 2.2 m wide Bobst F&K 90SIX CI preprint flexo press, a last generation Zerand platen die cutter, a top of the line Masterfold gluer, and other peripherals for a total investment of $30 million. The 90SIX is the highest performance central impression flexo press for preprinted linerboard and coated boxboard applications worldwide, Bobst stated.

Together with the new press, Grupo Gondi has purchased smartGPSTM, Bobst's unique technology for impression and registration setting. The ground breaking concept of this technology is to do the set-up offline during the mounting stage instead of in the press, thereby reducing waste of substrate and time. This means not only a vast cost saving potential, but at the same time opens doors to new markets as even the smallest orders can still be produced efficiently.

The 90SIX delivers printed images close to offset quality, at high speeds up to 500 m/min, and offers the advantage of being capable of high-quality printing on lighter weight papers thereby considerably reducing the production costs.

One of the top players in the Mexican paper and packaging market, Grupo Gondi has over 58 years of experience in the industry. The activities of the seven companies that form the group include the production of semikraft and coated paper, corrugated and preprinted boxes, solid fiber containers, laminated and folding carton containers.

Grupo Gondi employs 3,900 people and its products are present in over 175 countries.
