MEXICO CITY, Mexico, May 13, 2013 (Press Release) -

  • With a 21 million dollar investment in equipment upgrades for two of their five paper mills, Grupo Gondi increases their production capacity and improves the quality of their recycled papers.
  • Grupo Gondi, leader in the paper and packaging industry for 59 years, has announced a 21 million dollar investment to increase their production capacity and to improve the quality of their 100% recycled papers in two of their paper mills at Empaques Modernos de Guadalajara and Empaques Modernos San Pablo, the latter based in Mexico City.

Eduardo Posada, CEO of Grupo Gondi announced that the high technology investment upgrades made to two of their paper packaging machines, reinforces the Group's focus to respond quickly and innovatively to the needs and challenges of the market, and positioning them as one of most important key players in the paper and packaging industry in Mexico, enabling them to continue with the Group's strategic focus of being a self-sufficient company in the production of recycled medium and liner, as well as coated boxboard.

To have the latest paper manufacturing technology, Grupo Gondi has acquired equipment from the Bellmer Company in Germany, ABK in Italy and Andritz & Kadant in the United States.

The investment was destined to one of the paper machines at Empaques Modernos de Guadalajara (EMG) that produces brown liner, white top liner and coated boxboard (Gondikote®) ranging from 11 up to 24 points, used for internal consumption within the Group's container plants and for sale in the market. The other paper mill that received new equipment was #2 at Empaques Modernos San Pablo (EMSP), to increase capacity and enhance the sheet formation of liner paper produced there for internal consumption in the manufacture of boxes. Installation will be concluded early 2014.

The development of their customers and production centers in Mexico is an important commitment for Grupo Gondi; this reinforces their continuous improvement process in all of their operations, sustained on innovation and learning, and striving daily to become a proud Mexican company.
