FPC and Tetra Pak start recycling plant in Chile

June 14, 2013 - 07:37

SAO PAULO, June 14, 2013 (RISI) -Chilean packaging paper producer Forestal y Papelera Concepción (FPC) and food and beverage packaging major supplier Tetra Pak inaugurated Chile's first hydropulper for long life UHT milk packaging recycling. Located in the city of Concepción, the plant can recycle more than 52 million packages per year by separating and extracting the pulp, aluminum and polyethylene in its composition. The pulp obtained in the process would be used by FPC to manufacture paper and board.

General director of Tetra Pak Southern Cone, Javier Quel, said the event signaled the importance of a project bringing a sustainable initiative to a city other than the country's capital. "Through this technology we are strengthening the recycling installed capacity of our packages throughout Chile, showing that recycling is not only doable in Santiago", he stated.
