VIENNA, Austria, May 8, 2017 (Press Release) -Mayr-Melnhof Karton confirms its leading role in highest product safety and sustainability: In FOODBOARD virgin fibre, folding boxboard is now available with a functional barrier for the first time globally.

Since early 2016, FOODBOARD™ based on recycled fibres protects food in European supermarket shelves, ensuring consumers’ confidence. In response to numerous customer requests FOODBOARD™ virgin fibre completes the offer of functional barrier solutions from Mayr-Melnhof Karton since May 2017. These barrier solutions protect food within the whole supply chain against mineral oils and other defined unintended substances such as phthalates and bisphenol A. They are fully recyclable, from renewable raw materials, biodegradable and available with FSC or PEFC certification.

The FOODBOARD™ product portfolio now offers for every application – from cereals to rice and pasta to highquality tea or chocolate – the right cartonboard solution. It consists of FOODBOARD™ based on recycled fibres with a brown reverse side (GT4) or a bright reverse side (GT1) and now also includes the new FOODBOARD virgin fibre (GC) made purely of virgin fibres with a cream-coloured reverse side.

Mayr-Melnhof Karton produces FOODBOARD™ at the Frohnleiten mill in Austria and the German virgin fiber mill Baiersbronn, providing sufficient capacity for safe and sustainable food packaging from recycled and virgin fiber cartonboard in Europe.
