JSC Volga sums up results of International packaging industry exhibition RosUpack

July 08, 2021 - 07:07

BALAKHNA, Russia, July 7, 2021 (Press Release) -The 25th International packaging industry exhibition RosUpack was held from 15 to 18 June, 2021 in Moscow. For the first time, JSC Volga’s commercial service has presented new products for the packaging segment at the exhibition.

Annually, a large number of companies, both Russian and foreign, attends the RosUpack exhibition. The exhibition provides numerous opportunities to meet partners from the regions and discuss prospects for cooperation. This year, after a considerably long period of restrictions due to the COVID-19, the event was held offline. “Despite the fact that some of the foreign guests couldn’t come, the exhibition was organized at a high representative level. For that we are very thankful to the organizers,” noted Alexey Vdovin, Deputy General Director for Sales.

“JSC Volga usually participates in industry exhibitions as real-life communication is of great importance in our work with partners. Until quite recently we’ve been producing a monoproduct – newsprint for the printing industry. Naturally, we have exhibited at industry printing forums. However, we have considerably increased the share of packaging grades in the total order portfolio, so that currently more than 50% of JSC Volga production is produced in the form of packaging paper grades that are supplied both for export and to Russian manufacturers of corrugated packaging. For our team participating in RosUpack is, first and foremost, one of the most effective ways to attract customers and promote the new products to the packaging market. In addition, our choice of the Ready-Made Packaging sector at the exhibition was not accidental: thus, we made ourselves known, as well as announced our serious strategic plans to strengthen the company's position in the packaging segment,” said Alexsey Vdovin. “The exhibition met all of our expectations: the attendance rate at the Volga stand was rather high, not to mention that the audience’s interest in our production caused, dare I say it, quite a stir. In four days, a large number of people visited our stand, and we held about two dozen negotiations with customers, including those who buy packaging paper for export. In the end, we are more than satisfied with the results.”

Such a high interest in the packaging paper grades produced at JSC Volga is not accidental. On the agenda in Russia, as well as all around the world, are more environmentally friendly packaging solutions that enable replacing plastic packaging with paper. Russian corrugated packaging manufacturers also keep up with global trends and use more lightweight components in the production of corrugated cardboard. Many leading Russian converters have already reached 20% of the total consumption of light liners and flutings purchased in the total volume of consumption, that is to say, there is already a market for JSC Volga, and it is growing due to the trend towards environmentally friendly packaging solutions.

“JSC Volga is making its first steps in the packaging industry (and to think that just a couple of years ago we couldn’t even imagine being able to compete in the packaging market!), but already today, there is a great interest on the customers’ part in products from the paper-making machine No. 5 (interliner weighing from 42 to 55 g/m2, fluting from 60 to 100 g/m2, which can be produced colored, as well as with different sizing levels depending on consumer requirements), which is another confirmation that the company is heading in the right direction. We have quite ambitious plans: in a three-year perspective we are planning to increase the volume of packaging grades and cardboard production by 70%. That’s where the innovations come in. Nowadays, many manufacturers of waste paper packaging cardboards are beginning to turn to moisture-resistant products, paper for foodstuff, laminated materials with barrier properties. JSC Volga will also move in this direction so as to keep up with the modern trends and look for new niches in the high-margin market,” shared the plans Alexey Vdovin and added, that JSC Volga will certainly participate in the next RosUpack-2022 exhibition.
