Kotkamills aims to penetrate American fast food market with recyclable food service board

October 29, 2020 - 07:24

BRUSSELS, Oct. 29, 2020 (PPI Europe) -Kotkamills is contemplating opening a sales office in the USA in order to introduce fully recyclable cups and plates to the American market.

“There is great interest in our products as alternatives to replace plastic also in North America, and by establishing a sales office we are pursuing growth in these huge markets. By operating close to the markets we can improve our customer service and, when needed, growth is supported by production built or acquired close to the markets. Starting our own production in North America is a vision, and the first steps in exploring it have already been taken,” Kotkamills CEO Markku Hämäläinen said in a statement.

The size of the American board cup market is four times as large as Europe’s at some 1,000,000 tonnes/year, and as a result, Hämäläinen said that “even a few percent share of the North American market would be a good start.”

The food service board produced by Kotkamills can be used to create a number of fast food service items including plates, cups, hamburger and french fry containers and straws.
