Daio starting up new containerboard capacity in Japan

September 18, 2014 - 15:01

MELBOURNE, Australia, Sept. 18, 2014 (RISI) -Daio Paper has started up a revamped PM at its Iwaki mill in Fukushima prefecture, Japan, which is now producing recycled containerboard.

In February, the firm closed a 300,000 tonne/yr fine paper machine at its Kani mill in Gifu prefecture, and relocated it to the Iwaki plant in Fukushima, rather than its Mishima mill as previously reported.

The PM recently started test runs, with the official launch of commercial production set for next month.

A source close to the project reported that the revamped PM seems to be producing at a rate of 6,000 tonnes per month at present.

Its target capacity is 12,000 tonnes per month of fluting, corrugating medium and lightweight linerboard.
