Up until now, measuring ash composition in the recovery boiler has been based on infrequent laboratory tests with no standard criteria of when to start treating or dumping ash. This means that optimal, real-time control is out of the operators’ hands, leading to the possibility of forced boiler shutdowns caused by unnoticed superheater corrosion or boiler plugging. New Valmet new Recovery Ash Analyzer brings real-time information on the condition of ash in the recovery boiler to control room screens. The new analyzer measures the ash composition at the electrostatic precipitator and determines melting temperatures which details the corrosiveness and stickiness of ash. This means that it is now possible to control the ash chemistry and optimize cleanability on a continuous basis thereby increasing overall recovery boiler availability and avoiding unplanned shutdowns.
