BRUSSELS, Sept 11, 2014 (RISI) - Stora Enso has finalized a SEK 50 million ($7 million) project to install a new soft calender on the 210,000 tonne/yr PM 10 at its Kvarnsveden mill in Borlänge in central Sweden.

The firm makes improved newsprint on the machine and following this investment, it will "introduce new refined products in the same product segment," mill manager Mikko Jokio told RISI. He said that more details on the new products would be available at a later stage.

Production on PM 10 was down for just over two weeks during the installation. "We have restarted production on PM 10, but we're still in the start-up phase. We're now focusing on fully completing the necessary process optimizations," Jokio said.

The Kvarnsveden mill houses two other machines as well, PMs 8 and 12, which have a combined capacity of some 540,000 tonnes/yr of supercalendered paper. These were not affected by the downtime on PM 10.
