Menasha's folding carton group sets $2M expansion in Wisconsin to house sheeting process

August 10, 2011 - 10:31

NEENAH, WI, Aug. 10, 2011 (Press Release) -Menasha Packaging's Folding Carton Group announces a $2 million expansion to its Neenah facility, which includes the addition of 20,000 square feet, a new 65-inch precision sheeter and an automated scrap removal system. The expansion will shift the sheeting process in-house, which will facilitate faster order response times and provide improved board quality.

Jim Snyder, general manager at the plant, said the greatest benefit of the expansion is the additional control gained from moving the process in-house.

"Menasha will now carry out the sheeting and production process internally, giving us greater control over quality and timing, and allowing us to more effectively serve our customers," said Snyder. "At the end of the day, that's what we are here to do."

Currently, Menasha purchases standard-size sheeted product from a supplier, which can take six weeks to arrive at the plant. With the expansion, Menasha can buy and store raw material, and carry out the sheeting process to exact size. The process will facilitate faster order times, improve productivity and provide pressman with flatter, fresher, more square sheets. Because the new equipment sheets to size, the process will also generate less waste.

As part of the expansion, Menasha will install a new automated waste removal system. The vacuum system will run throughout the plant, and automatically remove and bale scrap board for shipment to be recycled. Although Menasha currently recycles all waste board, the new process will greatly improve efficiencies.

Building construction begins in August, and the sheeter will be installed the first week of December.

Menasha's Folding Carton Group specializes in producing high‐impact, sustainable primary packaging solutions for private and national brand clients, using a wide caliper range of paperboard, specialty substrates and aesthestic embellishments. All of the group's print assets and proofing equipment are also G7 qualified by IDEAlliance, which requires that Menasha utilizes the most modern technology, proofing and press controls, and standards required to produce a close visual match from proof to print. The plant employs 177 people at its Neenah, Wisconsin location.
