Sheets Unlimited in Renton, Wash., recently installed the first 112-inch Vanguard Singlefacer with preheaters, splicers and roll stands from MarquipWardUnited. The Vanguard Singlefacer provides precise flute formation and excellent bonding at high speeds on all product from micro-flute to heavy board. The Vanguard pressure roll singlefacer is less expensive to operate than a belted singlefacer. MarquipWardUnited can now supply a complete 112-inch corrugator with pressure roll type singlefacers.
Additional 112-inch Vanguards have already been sold and are currently being manufactured for startup later this year.
According to Krist Leland, director of manufacturing for Sheets Unlimited, "This was the smoothest startup I have been involved with in my 30-plus-year career in the corrugated industry. The machine performed perfectly from the moment we hit the start button. Within five minutes, we had reached 600 FPM and within the first hour, more than 1000 FPM. This is in addition to the fact that the machine started 24 hours earlier than scheduled."
The 112-inch Vanguard Singlefacer incorporates MarquipWardUnited's gun-drilled corrugating roll technology for improved heat transfer and bonding.
During the Vanguard installation, MarquipWardUnited upgraded the glue machine to the Soft-Touch rider roll positioning system (patents pending). The Soft-Touch system automatically seeks the correct rider roll gap at a paper change or flute change to allow precise starch application with no crush of the singleface web.
