Idaho agency seeks comment on proposed air quality permit for Clearwater Paper pulp digester project at Lewiston mill

July 22, 2015 - 09:00

LEWISTON, ID, July 21, 2015 (Press Release) -The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking public comment on a proposed air quality permit to construct for Clearwater Paper Corporation, Lewiston.

The proposed permit will allow the company to add a polysulfide generator, replace a digester system, modify a pulp dryer, and make changes to chip fiberline brownstock washing, oxygen delignification, and bleaching systems at its pulp and paperboard facility located at 803 Mill Road. Emissions must remain within legal limits.

DEQ has reviewed the permit application and determined that construction and operation of the equipment under the proposed permit conditions will not cause or contribute to a violation of any ambient air quality standard and will not injure or unreasonably affect human or animal life or vegetation.

The permit application, proposed permit, and related documents are available for review on DEQ's website (download at right).

The deadline for submitting written comments addressing air quality considerations is August 19, 2015, at 5 p.m. MDT.

For technical information on the draft permit, contact Dan Pitman, DEQ Air Quality Division, at (208) 373-0500 or daniel.pitman@deq.idaho.gov.

Submit written comments on the proposed permit electronically on DEQ's website or by mail or e-mail to:
