Wisconsin-based Little Rapids Corp completes FSC, SFI, and PEFC certifications to provide paper-based products

November 03, 2011 - 10:07

GREEN BAY, WI, Nov. 3, 2011 (Press Release) -Little Rapids Corporation, a leading manufacturer and marketer of products for the healthcare, beauty and specialty paper markets, has completed certification for three significant sustainability certifications, enabling the company to provide paper-based products that adhere to strict guidelines for environmentally responsible products. These certifications were awarded this summer by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Little Rapids Corporation's paper mills, converting facilities, and distribution centers have earned chain-of-custody certification for FSC, SFI and PEFC, and are certified for the manufacture and distribution of paper products according to their respective chain-of-custody standards. In addition, the company has controlled wood certification from FSC and certified fiber sourcing from SFI, both of which are through the company's Shawano Specialty Products paper mill.

"Offering products that are certified by FSC, SFI and PEFC is just one way we support the growth of responsible forest management worldwide," said Ron Thiry, Little Rapids Corporation's Vice President of Operations and General Manager of Custom Products. "It also helps our customers bring environmentally responsible products to their markets."

These new certifications are part of Little Rapids Corporation's commitment to being a good corporate citizen with a sincere and proper regard for the environment.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international nonprofit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world's forests. FSC-certified products use wood from forests that are managed according to strict environmental, social and economic standards.

SFI Inc. is an independent, non-profit, charitable organization which is solely responsible for maintaining, overseeing and improving the internationally recognized Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program. SFI chain-of-custody certification tells buyers the percentage of fiber from certified forests, certified sourcing and/or post-consumer recycled content. The SFI program's unique fiber sourcing requirements promote responsible forest management on all suppliers' lands.

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.

Little Rapids Corporation was founded by Charles Egan in 1947 and remains a family-owned business. The company's core product lines serve the medical and beauty market segments under the Graham Professional brand, and the specialty paper market under the Shawano Specialty Papers and Larson Converting brands. With headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Green Bay, the company also has a paper manufacturing facility in Shawano, Wisconsin. In addition, the company donates regularly to the Egan Foundation, a private foundation established by the Egan family in 1986 with the mission to fund charities in communities where Little Rapids Corporation has facilities.
