  • HEIDENHEIM, Germany, Dec. 7, 2018 (Press Release) -
  • Scope of supply includes a new SpeedSizer coater with an infrared web drying system
  • Modernizing the machine will provide benefits such as significant improvements in process visibility and control through intelligent automation systems, as well as cuttingedge technology for controlling the paper's most important CD and MD parameters

A leading technology partner for papermakers around the world, Voith has signed a contract to supply new equipment to the Ahlstrom-Munksjö specialty paper mill in Jacareí, located in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.

The Finnish group recently announced its investment in Brazil, a project that will be engineered by the German multinational company and which aims to modernize the mill, improve its flexibility, increase its coating and calendering capacity, as well as raise its products' efficiency level.

The modernization project will allow Ahlstrom-Munksjö to meet the growing demand of South American customers for high value-added coated (L1 couché) specialty papers.

The project's scope of supply includes a new SpeedSizer coater with an infrared web drying system, as well as the contact-free web turning system CB-Turn and CB-Float.

Voith will also rebuild the machine's reel and winder, as well as supply a new 1x3 Soft Calender, a new Quality Control System (QCS, comprised of two new Voith OnQ Scanners and a ModuleSpeed system for CD coating control in the SpeedSizer), the machine's automation system, its hydraulic and pneumatic systems, a new broke system, and all the necessary ancillary systems.

The state-of-the-art technology embedded in Voith's quality measurement and control equipment offers enormous benefits to the papermaking industry, including greater precision for measuring process variables, increased processing speed for CD and MD profile correction, as well as a comprehensive display of control parameters for the operators.

Among other benefits, Voith's technology offers remote access to the control system, a useful feature for detecting and solving problems that leads to shorter times for providing assistance and lower costs for transporting experts to the customer's mill.

"Voith's experience will help us to continue offering products that deliver high quality, efficiency and a perfect finishing for our customers. This modernization project will be very important for our company's future, since it will enable us to supply more competitive products in the market," says Valmir Piton, VP Coated Specialties and president of Ahlstrom-Munksjö in Brazil.

"Our partnership with Ahlstrom-Munksjö reinforces Voith's role as a technology supplier and proves that we are on the right track to supplying the most modern and efficient solutions in the industry to our customers," comments Antônio Lemos, President of Voith Paper Products & Services for South America.
