MOSCOW, May 28, 2019 (Press Release) -At present Segezha Group (part of Sistema JSFC), a forest industry enterprise, is finishing up the design of a new industrial facility at Sokolsky PPM PJSC in Vologda Region, the drier installation for production of dry lignosulphonate.

The equipment is set to be launched in the first half of 2020. The capacity will amount to 2,000 tons of dry lignosulphonate a month. The budget of the project is RUB 0.3 bln. Geodesic work is currently underway, and preparation of the new industrial site of 5,000 square meters in area has already commenced. General construction of the new building will commence in the fall of 2019. The new enterprise will help create 20 new jobs.

This product with high added value will allow Sokolsky PPM to develop new product segments and enter new markets. The company has taken into account the fact that the product can be used for many purposes: for production of technical carbon; in the oil industry; in foundry operation; in the making of cement; in construction, when making particle boards, cellulose fiber boards, and glass wool boards, as well as in road construction.

The technological foundation for the new product is liquid lignosulphonate, which is generated as waste during production of pulp. After the substance is dried, it turns into a brown powder, a mixture of sodium salts of lignosulphonic acids, reducing and mineral substances. The dry substance content in powdered lignosulphonates after drying will amount to up to 96%, with only up to 4% liquid. The product will be packaged into big bags, up to 600–700 kg each.

The new facility is being created as part of the investment program to enhance production, which started at Sokolsky PPM in 2018. In addition to buying new equipment for drying liquid lignosulphonates, the current paper-making equipment is being modernized. The project of building the new paper-making machine is currently being considered.

During the IV Investment Forum in Sokol, Alexey Sherlygin, Vice President of Segezha Group for Government Relations, said that the company was aiming for a comprehensive modernization of Sokolsky PPM, with installation of a new paper-making machine, capable of producing 100,000 tons of ready product a year. The digester machine will be renovated, and other capacities will be added.
