SCHWEDT, Germany, April 20, 2021 (Press Release) -On 10 April, damage occurred in the pulping area of paper machine 5 at LEIPA's Schwedt plant. As a result, the machine came to an instantaneous standstill.
All measures necessary for repair were initiated immediately. In the course of the repair work, however, it became apparent that the complexity of the mechanical damage is much more serious than initially assumed.
Contrary to the original expectation, the repair will most likely last until 3 May. The resulting restrictions are due to unforeseeable circumstances beyond the company's control.
However, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the PM 5 team and the service providers involved, it has been possible to conduct emergency production operation since 20 April.
As a result, PM 5 is expected to produce corrugated base paper at about 50% of its usual capacity.
Unfortunately, with this reduced production capacity, (partial) cancellations of orders and delays in delivery dates cannot be completely avoided.
The affected customers have been informed in detail and replacement plans are being developed jointly.
LEIPA expressly thanks its customers and business partners for their understanding and trust.
We would also like to thank the employees and service providers involved in the repair work for their committed efforts to remedy the damage as quickly as possible.
