US pulp and paper freight in the week ending Oct. 16 was 5% higher and Canada showed a 12.9% increase. Mexican freight was up 15.2%.
North American lumber and wood products freight for the week at 4,195 carloads was 9.2% above last year and through 41 weeks at 193,997 carloads was 8.6% higher.Read more
The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) is calling on the federal government to act quickly and decisively on the problem identified by the Rail Freight Service Review panel. Early in 2008, the federal government committed to addressing the deficiencies in rail service to rural industries. Through 38 weeks of 2010, pulp and paper freight at 350,933 carloads was 0.1% above last year's levels. US traffic year-to-date is off 0.4% and Canadian volume is 1.2% higher.
