In the Western US, carloads were up 22.3% compared with the same week last year, but down 10.4% compared with 2008. In the Eastern US, carloads were up 9.1% compared with 2009, but down 13.4% from 2008.
North American pulp and paper freight in the week at 8,682 carloads was down 5.6% from 2009 and cumulative through 12 weeks at 106,614 carloads was 5.7% lower, AAR showed.
