SAN FRANCISCO, April 22, 2011 (RISI) -North American pulp and paper railroad freight in the latest week ending Apr. 16 was up 7.3% from last year to 9,649 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Pulp and paper freight through 15 weeks of 2011 at 145,554 carloads was 8.6% higher than in 2010.

Pulp and paper freight in the week was up 5.2% in the US, 9.8% higher in Canada, and more than triple in volume in Mexico.

North American lumber and wood products freight in the week at 5,811 carloads was 5.8% higher than a year ago and year-to-date at 76,864 carloads was up 7.6%, AAR showed.

Primary forest products volume was down 10.6% and 5.9% respectively.
