OAKLAND, CA, Dec. 11, 2014 (RISI) -North American forest products rail freight was 4.7% higher in the week ending Dec. 6 at 18,530 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Volume through 49 weeks of 2014 was 0.4% below a year ago at 913,750 carloads.
US forest products volume in the week rose 12% from a year ago, Canada was 4.7% lower and Mexico was up 4.7%.
Total North American rail carloads in the week were up 10.8% and year-to-date was up 3.2%.
Genesee & Wyoming reported its North American pulp and paper carloads in November were up 2.6% to 13,930 carloads and lumber/forest products were down 4.4% to 10,191 carloads. For October-November pulp and paper freight was up 3.9% and lumber was up 0.3%.
