POTSDAM, NY, Aug. 11, 2010 (Watertown Daily Times) -Potsdam Specialty Paper Inc. has invested $200,000 to refurbish an abandoned two-mile spur of track connecting its Unionville plant with CSX's Massena line.

Potsdam Specialty Paper plant General Manager Ronald F. Charette said using the new rail link to deliver chemicals and other supplies to the Unionville plant will initially save $100,000 a year in transportation costs.

As an example, Mr. Charette said, the paper mill typically uses about 60 boxcars a year of styrene-butadiene latex, a compound used to coat some paper products, and about two rail cars of clay slurry each month. He said the latex comes from Ohio and the slurry from a site in Georgia.
