North American forest products rail freight rises in first week of 2015

OAKLAND, CA, Jan. 15, 2015 (RISI) -North American forest products rail freight rose 3.5% in the first full week of 2015 from a year ago to 17,932 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. US traffic was up 2.9%, Canada rose 4% and Mexico's low volume was up 45.1%.

AAR showed total North American carloads in the week ending Jan. 10 were up 8.1%.

Genesee & Wyoming reported its pulp and paper rail freight in the fourth quarter was up 3.5% from a year ago to 44,447 carloads. December volume was up 2.8%.

The company showed its lumber and forest products freight was up 3.6% in the quarter to 33,549 carloads and December was 11.2% higher.

G&W's total carloads in the quarter were up 8.1% and in December were 12.2% higher.
