Grieg Star’s newest vessel, the M/V Star Livorno loaded 10,200 tons of baled woodpulp for export to the Mediterranean when she called at the Port of Wilmington on her maiden voyage. NC State Ports Authority director of liner sales, Tom Guthrie, and woodpulp supervisor, Tom Edgar, presented an engraved plaque to the vessel master, Capt. Captain Edgar Jao, to commemorate the occasion on October 21, 2013.

The 670-ft long ship is one of 10 new open hatch vessels that have been ordered by the Norwegian shipping company. Built in the Korean shipyard Hyundai Mipo, the open hatch ships feature advanced slewing cranes for more versatility and fast and safe handling of pulp and other forestry products. Wilmington Shipping Company is the agent and SSA Marine is the stevedore.
