North American forest products railroad freight down 8.5% in week ending Oct. 10
In the week, US forest products freight was down 8.5%, Canada was down 8.1% and Mexico fell 63.3%. Year-to-date US volume was down 2.3%, Canada was up 3.7% and Mexico was 26.8% lower.
Total North American freight in the week was down 3.9% and year-to-date was 0.9% lower.
BNSFreported its pulp and paper freight in the week ending Oct. 10 was up 1.8% to 1,456 carloads and year-to-date was off 0.7% to 54,886 carloads. Lumber/wood freight in the week was up 7.4% to 1,662 carloads and year-to-date was 4.2% higher to 63,659 carloads.
Genesee & Wyomingreported its September 2015 pulp and paper rail volume was down 3.6% to 14,837 carloads and lumber/forest freight was up 1.5% to 11,777 carloads. For third quarter, G&W showed pulp and paper freight was off 0.2% from a year ago to 45,270 carloads and lumber/forest was down 1.7% to 34,770 carloads.
