North American forest products rail volume down 2.2% in latest week as US drops 6.7%

OAKLAND, CA, Feb. 25, 2015 (RISI) -North American forest products rail freight was down 2.2% in the week ending Feb. 21 at 17,852 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Volume through seven weeks of 2015 at 131,898 carloads was 4.7% higher from 2014.

In the week, US forest products freight was down 6.7%, Canada was up 5.5% and Mexico's small volume dropped 41%.

Total North American carload volume fell 6.2% in the week and year-to-date was 4.3% higher. Grain was the lone commodity group to post an increase compared with the same week in 2014, up 4%, AAR said.
