SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 15, 2020 (Fastmarkets RISI) -North American forest products freight was down 8.6% in the latest week ending Aug. 8 at 15,173 carloads, and year-to-date was 8.2% lower to 495,391 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported.
US forest products freight was down 9.2% in the week at 9,100 carload and through 32 weeks was 6.6% lower to 664,094 carloads.
Canada freight was down 7.5% in the latest week at 6,055 carloads and year-to-date was 10.5% below a year ago to 199,013 carloads.
Mexico’s small volumes were down 45.5% in the week and 4% year-to-date.
Total North American railroad carloads were down 14.5% through Aug. 8 at 9.73 million units, AAR showed, with coal down 26.6%, motor vehicles down 31.1% and chemicals 4.7% lower.
Farm products were the only commodity group to be positive through 32 weeks at 1.6% higher.
