North American forest products rail freight down 5.4% through 39 weeks of 2019

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 2, 2019 (Fastmarkets RISI) -North American forest products rail freight was down 8.6% in the latest week ending Sept. 28 from a year ago, and through 39 weeks of 2019 was 5.4% lower to 656,871 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported.

Year-to-date US forest products rail volume was down 4.2% from a year ago at 385,626 carloads, Canada was 7% lower to 328,910 carloads and Mexico was down 10.9% to 1,038 carloads, AAR showed.

Year-to-date total forest products freight was 4.8% lower in mid-August from a year ago.

Total North American rail carloads year-to-date were 2.6% lower at 13.85 million units with all commodities down except petroleum and petroleum products.
