OAKLAND, CA, July 2, 2015 (RISI) -North American forest products rail freight was down 2.8% in the week ending June 27, 2015, from a year ago at 19,479 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Volume through 25 weeks at 471,076 carloads was 1.3% higher.
US forest products freight in the week was down 5.8%, Canada was up 2.1%, and Mexico was 56.3% lower. Year-to-date US volume was down 1.6%, Canada was up 6% and Mexico 22.2% lower.
Total North American rail carloads in the week were down 7.3% and year-to-date down 3%, AAR reported. Coal freight was down 9.1% year-to-date from a year earlier.
