North American forest products rail freight down 2.7% in latest week

OAKLAND, CA, May 28, 2015 (RISI) -North American forest products railroad freight was down 2.7% in the latest week ending May 23, 2015, from a year ago at 18,753 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Volume through 19 weeks of 2015 at 376,396 carloads was 2.6% higher.

US forest products freight in the week was down 2.6%, Canada declined 2.9% and Mexico was 14.3% higher.

Year-to-date US volume was off 0.5% to 220,449 carloads, Canada was 7.6% higher to 155,024 carloads, and Mexico was 21.3% lower to 923 carloads.

Total North American rail carloads were down 8.9% in the week and 1.5% lower year-to-date.
