North American forest products rail freight up 3.6% in latest week ending Dec. 20

OAKLAND, CA, Dec. 25, 2014 (RISI) -North American forest products rail freight rose 3.6% in the week ending Dec. 20, 2014, to 19,289 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Volume through 51 weeks at 951,587 carloads was 0.2% below the same period of 2013.

US forest products traffic in the week was up 2.5% and year-to-date was 2.7% higher. Canadian traffic rose 5.2% and was 4.4% lower respectively. Mexico's small volume rose by half in the week and was 7.2% lower year-to-date.

AAR showed total North American rail carload freight was up 7.7% in the week and 3.5% higher year-to-date. Intermodal growth lifted total rail traffic to 8.5% in the week and 4.3% year-to-date.
