WEST MONROE, LA, July 6, 2011 (Local News) -Greater Ouachita Port personnel moved a record number of containers in June, thanks primarily to the ongoing recovery in Japan from the March tsunami that devastated parts of that country.

"We had one heck of a month," port director Paul Trichel said at the Greater Ouachita Port Commission's meeting Wednesday. "We moved out 640 loads (by rail), when normally we would move 300 to 400."

The port's dominant customer is Graphic Packaging, which ships paper from the port to its customers in Japan.
