Borders closed, flights suspended, people ordered into their own four walls. Covid-19 has ensured that nothing remains what seemed to be quite normal recently - first in China, then in Europe - the USA and South America and the rest of the world have also been affected.

For companies operating in the forest-based industries and downstream logistics, many things are also different from what they were. On the one hand, the manufacturers of pulp, tissue, cardboard, paper, board and corrugated are experiencing an enormous improvement in their image - from an industry that was long accused of unnecessarily cutting down trees to a system-relevant industry without which the current high demand for certain products could hardly be met; after all, food and pharmaceuticals have to be packaged for transport and sale.

On the other hand, many mills are running at full speed - especially in the area of tissue paper - because consumers are reacting to the perceived loss of control in view of the spread of the corona virus with hoarding. And then there are the special challenges that arise when border crossings are no longer permitted for general transport, but the free movement of goods is still to be guaranteed…
