ST. JOHN, NB, May 19, 2010 (New Brunswick Business Journal) -An attempt to mitigate the effects of fluctuating oil prices is at the heart of a district heating project proposed by J.D. Irving, Limited. The idea is to have its Saint John pulp division supply hot water to nearby industry and part of the city's uptown.
In the long run, the scheme would see Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. heat all the buildings connected by the city's pedway.
Moosehead Breweries Ltd. and T.S. Simms and Co. Ltd. - neighbours of the pulp mill - would also receive hot water for heat and to fuel their processes.
