COMBINED LOCKS, WI, May 20, 2010 (Press Release) -Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announces today that his office has reached a settlement with Appleton Coated LLC of Combined Locks, Wisconsin. Appleton Coated is a paper mill producing high end coated paper for traditional and digital printing, specialty products, and papers for checks, books, catalogs, and inserts. The plant operates a facility in Combined Locks, Wisconsin which requires an air pollution permit from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The civil complaint filed in Outagamie County alleges that the company failed to maintain records, used a non-compliant coating, and failed to operate equipment in violation of its air pollution permit.

The company has agreed to pay forfeitures and penalties in the amount of $70,000 as settlement of the civil complaint. The settlement was approved by Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge Nancy J. Krueger. Assistant Attorney General Cynthia Hirsch prosecuted the case.
