JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, July 13, 2021 (Press Release) -Middle East Paper Co. (MEPCO), the largest paper manufacturer in the Middle East & Africa has just celebrated its 20th anniversary alongside announcing hitting 5 million metric tons of recycled paper.
Founded in 2000 in Jeddah, with an annual installed capacity of half a million metric tons of containerboard and specialty paper products produced on three paper machines. Production is exclusively based on “Recovered Paper” for recycling, utilizing 50% of Saudi Arabia’s recovered paper.
Ahmed Fazary, MEPCO CCO commented: "Just thinking about 5 million MT of paper that we've recycled could provide daily oxygen for a number of people that is 8 times the size of Saudi Arabia's population makes us proud of our track record for championing recycling in the region".
The recycling effort spearheaded by MEPCO plays a vital role in helping people live and work more sustainably. 90% of the recovered paper that MEPCO recycles is sourced by WASCO, a wholly-owned subsidiary company specializing in waste management and sorting, which has more than 20 locations in Saudi Arabia. Combining the resource of MEPCO and WASCO ensures that converters “domestic & global” are further driving sustainability by creating and selling products made from recycled sources with efficient manufacturing processes. MEPCO's key mission is to continue to support the planet's circular economy ambitions, reducing its carbon footprint, and protecting valuable ecosystems.
