SANTIAGO, Chile, Oct. 26, 2012 (Press Release) -After three weeks of work, Woodmark's auditing team finished the infield assessment of ARAUCO's forestry operations for the FSCTM certification process last Friday, October 19.

The ten experts of the British company's auditing team conducted infield visits to various harvesting and thinning operations, as well as plantations; they verified protection areas, water inlets, high conservation value areas, in addition to plots with landscape scale planning; they checked roads, chemical use, forestry camps, native forest protection areas and many other silvicultural issues, in addition to maintaining permanent dialog with neighbors, communities, and forestry workers.

For employees at the company's subsidiaries Forestal Celco, Bosques Arauco and Forestal Valdivia these were days of intense activity, since the work amounted to more than 90 auditing work days.

Public consultation with stakeholders was very important in this process. It allowed the auditing team to talk with about a thousand people through a number of public and open meetings held in various communes from Chilean regions Maule to Los Lagos; in addition to receiving hundreds of comments, calls and emails, and listening to another 400 people during infield work.

This assessment became a good opportunity to demonstrate the strong commitment of all the people at ARAUCO with the new forest management practices that have been adopted as a result of the certification process.

The audit results will soon be known, nevertheless, the message that has become deeply rooted in ARAUCO is the certainty that the company is on the right path and will continue to advance in this new way of doing things.
